A Quickie Nooner
This is going to be an odds and end blog. Some have been wondering about the launch of the new research tab and I am told it is happening this evening. It has been difficult to coordinate the launch of the tab over the holiday season. Lesson learned, but we would rather do it right, than fast. Do not quote me on this, but I am fairly sure there is a 30-day free trial to the research tab. This will allow people to see the value and power of this new premium product.

I hope that everyone had a merry Christmas. Vacation has really been nothing of a vacation so far. While I have been reading and relaxing, work has managed to seep its way into my life in one way or another. There is a lot going on behind the scenes right now and this is what I expected to be honest. There is a meeting this evening about stock.ly. This meeting will involve Keith, Marco, and myself. I feel like we make a good team because we all get along great together. Most of you have not heard of Marco, but you will grow to know him.

My must follow Twitter list
I find that the more I use Twitter, the more I kind of dislike it. Take today for example (Sunday 12.27.2009), the markets are closed today and people are still charting, discussing what the hell is going to happen next week, their outlook for 2010, etc. If you examine my Twitter account, @hedgieguy, you will notice that I do not follow many people. It is not because I give a crap about my Twitter “ratio,” it is simply because I only follow people that add value to my day. Below is the list of people I follow and why you should follow them too.
A reflection and look ahead
Today is my last day of work for 2009, although I will be doing plenty of reading and learning on my vacation. With the year coming to a rapid close I wanted to reflect back on the year that was 2009 and look forward to 2010.
The Start of Stock.ly 1.4
Today was a tough day in the world of stock.ly. Keith and I had to make a hard decision on proposals. The conversation letting the person know they did not get the build went much better than expected. I was really blown back by the maturity and foresight that this person used to see our side. Being a startup we have a large balancing act going on right now. Our number one goal is to preserve cash, allowing us to have a very low burn rate, which we have done. The other arm of this act is balancing the actual task at hand.

Progress on stock.ly continues unabated! In this installment I want to discuss raising capital and our strategy. If you have a great idea, good for you. A good idea is nothing without capital though. Capital, cash, or cash and cash equivalents are the life blood of a start up. The minute you run out of cash, your company will cease to exist or if you never have it, you will never have existed. When your idea is conceptual you are basically selling yourself and your team. Stock.ly was lucky in that I have two tangible and successful companies.

Saturday was a big day for stock.ly. The whole team assembled at the offices starting around 10am and we concluded around 4pm with a nice meal at Moe’s Grille. We nailed down the features that will launch with our beta version. We stripped a couple away to get the beta released by late February! The full list of features will launch when the website goes live in late spring of 2010. Some of the features are very cool and a first for a finance website. I think most will be blown away when they see this.

Hey all, I hope everyone is having a great Friday. The market is spinning it wheels in the mud today. I decided to take a break while I wait for a couple of buying opportunities to write a Start of Stock.ly blog.

I have not wrote a blog dealing with anything besides our new start up for some time and I wanted to write something a bit different today. This will be a short blog about another blog site that I have come to enjoy very much and that is Abnormal Returns.
