Thanks to Trader Alamo for creating this wonderful video! You can see the stock.ly droids hard at work shortening your financial news/media links.
Philip Dunham from TDL Research drops by to drink a few good beers and discuss macro economic trends they are focused on. In this episode we discuss higher short-term interest rates in the US, Canada's surprise economic data, investing in Australia, and China revaluing their curreny.
The creation of stock.ly has caused me to develop a profound interest in vc backed pre-ipo companies. Some of the most popular names in this space is Facebook, Twitter, Digg, Zynga, Tesla Motors, just to name a few. One aspect that has had me utterly intrigued is how one values these companies. Valuation is very important for several reasons.
It’s been a long time since I blogged, but BarbarianCap struck a thought process in my head that I wanted to explore and put on paper. In his latest blog post, Barbarian walks us through his own inflation metrics he tracks. One section of his metrics glosses over beer prices and this sparked a discussion in the chat bar about beer prices.
JohnWelshPHD stopped by Happy Hour Friday to school all of us in biotech stocks. He is a great guy and a great trader. We cover a ton of companies including MDVN, IMMU, ALXA, ANDS, SQNM.
Dan "airelon" Shy stopped by Happy Hour again this week and we discussed some basic concepts such as portfolio management and DRIP investing. Anthony also shares his covered call strategy and of course they enjoy their favorite beverages.
I am taking some time tonight to try to update everyone about the happenings at our new site http://stock.ly. We were able to add Ryan as our Chief Creative Officer last week. When we first started the project we wanted Marco, our CTO, to program and lead the project and have Ryan design. It simply did not work out then, but some things have changed and Ryan has been added to the company now! He is working for 100% equity like the majority of us and that is not only good for him, but the company as well.
I had a great time with Josh, aka The reformed broker, on this happy hour. We discussed the blogosphere, aggregators, the ebook war, and the movie industry.
By now you have all heard that Google finally released it’s Twitter like product known as Buzz. This product has been integrated into Gmail with the hopes of making it easy and accessible. Will this be enough to fight off Project Titan from Facebook and help gmail retain its users? Probably not.
Super Bowl 44 had a good game and terrible ads. I watch little to no NFL football throughout the year. NCAA football is my preferred format and Super Bowl 44 was the first NFL game I watched all year. One reason I watch it is for the ads. Much like last year, the ads were horrible again this year. There were a few that I did like. The beaver violinist was kind of funny and then there was the Google ad everyone is talking about.
