Bill Gross talks his book again, saying markets can’t do that well again, without the “sugar daddy” of government stimulus. Jeremy Siegel says economy is recovering, we avoided deflation, Bernanke made the right moves and the Fed will take liquidity out by raising interest rates, which will also put pressure on govt to hold the line on spending. I of course, lean toward the Siegel point of view, but understand Mr. Gross' effort to keep bringing in assets to his ginormous Total Return Fund.  Talk about Sugar Daddy - I wish he was my Sugar Daddy!  Gotta be nice to skim 1.5% off the top of naive bond investors.  He's better than the old Kansas City Skim.  Hasn't anyone heard of just laddering treasuries?

Op-ed over, here's some news:

GOOG: Nexus one announced.  179/529 price, subsidized on T-Mob in US.  Will add carriers in the future.  Avail Spring 2010. Critics universally agree it’s better than the MOT Droid. Chip is from QCOM.  “really cool phone, but it is not a game changer” analyst with Forrester Research.

MSFT, CTXS, BMCS, VMW: ISI’s favorite software stocks going into Q409 and 2010. Checks show chance for beat quarters for all of them, especially MSFT.

AAPL: bought Quattro, mobile ad firm same day GOOG announces new phone.  Coincidence or “signal?”  GOOG just bought AdMob.  AAPL saying “hey, we can get into your markets too?” Piper says 15.8M US iPhones in 2010, even without VZ.  36M worldwide, which he admits may be conservative for WW sales.  CY09: 25.7M CY10: 36.0M, CY11: 48.5M.  (CY08 was 13.7M, the year everyone on the street doubted the company’s 10M unit guidance.  They’ve come a long way)

PANL: worth a look again?  Has the time for mass adoption of OLED finally come? OLED on new Google phone, rumored to be on iTablet.

CTRP: in IBD.  In many of the best-performing equity fund portfolios.

T: blaming cell site backhaul connection limitations for network failures.  They plan to connect more towers to fiber optic connections to AT&T backbone network.  Did HSPA7.2 software upgrade to all cell sites already.

SNDK: Another lemming.  Caris raises to buy, says $37 price target.

NTDOY: worth a look again?  Wii sales rebounded in Dec09.
